Angel, a former Big Brother Naija Shine Ya Eye contestant, has disclosed that her late boyfriend, whom she frequently mentioned while in the house, died of mental illness.
The 21-year-old avoided disclosing details about his death in a Facebook Live chat with Punch Online, but did say, "His death was mental health-related."
She went on to explain why it is important for everyone, particularly males, to talk about mental health issues.
"If you are going through anything at all," she continued, "it is extremely vital to come out."
I believe that people mistake vulnerability for weakness, and I used to believe that being exposed made me weak.
Because of the prevalence of toxic masculinity, it's extremely difficult for guys."
She indicated that she was able to deal with the loss in the following way:
“Dealing with loss is a two-way street; there will be days when you feel fine and days when you don't want to get out of bed and want to be alone.
It's a rollercoaster of emotions.
Because I was grateful for the time I spent with him, I was able to recuperate."
